Colorado Resident Defrauded of $6,000 in Bitcoin by Phone Scammer

A resident of Keystone, Colorado, fell victim to a phone scam and lost $6,000 in bitcoin after the scammer falsely claimed the individual had failed to report for jury duty. The scammer attempted to extort an additional $4,000 in bitcoin, but county deputies intervened before the transaction could be completed. This incident, which took place on October 27, adds to a growing list of phone scams affecting local residents.

Authorities are currently investigating the matter and urge community members to remain vigilant. Some scammers have been known to issue phony arrest warrants, demanding payments in bitcoin or wire transfers to resolve these alleged charges. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning, stating that deputies will never contact individuals regarding arrest warrants and offer to settle them in exchange for gift cards.
